Mangalore, November 20: Books of all languages are available at one's doorstep today. By creating a culture of book collection in each house, it is possible to create mini libraries and unite the world in a way, opined Shudra Srinivas, senior writer and State Library Authority member.
He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the National Library Week 2012 at Milagres auditorium in the city on Tuesday.
Books not only teach people life but also help them mould their lifestyle, as was the case with great people like Gandhiji, Nehru, and others, he said.
Senior writer KT Gatty, in his address expressed disappointment at the decreasing number of book readers. Although the number of literates is increasing, the number of book readers is on the decline, he lamented.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, inaugurated the programme. Krishna J Palemar, MLA, Dr. N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, DK, S Ramesh, President, MUDA, Dr. K N Vijayprakash, CEO, DK Zilla Panchayat, were present among others.
