Mangalore, November 21: City based television journalist Naveen Soorinje was on Tuesday handcuffed by the sleuths of District Armed Reserve Police while being taken to the III JMF Court from the prison.
The development comes a day after Karnataka high court stayed an FIR filed against Mr Soorinje in connection with Morning Mist Home-stay attack. The copy of the stay order issued by the High Court, was produced before the court.
Mr Soorinje's advocate Sathish Bantwal has expressed severe displeasure over handcuffing of the scribe.
“Neither he is a criminal nor did he make any attempt to escape. However, he was handcuffed to insult him in public,” he said.
“Supreme Court has given direction in Prem Shankar Shukla case that an under-trial should not be handcuffed. In case, if an under-trial had made any attempt to escape, then permission should be obtained from the court before handcuffing him or her,” he said.
