Udupi, November 21: The Udupi district unit of Campus Front of India staged a protest at clock tower here, demanding that the union government exert pressure on Israel to stop attacks on the innocent civilians of Gaza.
Speaking on the occasion anti-communalism activist G Rajshekar said that against the backdrop of the several Arab-Israeli wars, the Zionist regime continued to usurp the remaining Palestinian lands over the years.
“Unfortunately, Palestinians have had to face relentless persecution in return at the hands of the Israeli forces. In the pre 1990s period, India stood by the Palestine cause, but after the accepting the World Bank and IMF direction, India started aligned with the Axis of Imperialist forces, USA and Israel. It is a shame that India started diplomatic and defence agreement with the Zionist Israel. Today, India is the largest importer of defence weapons of Israel”, he said.
CFI district treasurer Munawwar Udupi said that with the forced, illegal and unjust creation of the state of Israel for the displaced global Jewish community in the post -world wars, by the erstwhile world powers out of the Palestinian lands in 1948, the fate and history of the native Palestinian Arab people changed overnight for the worse. Since then, the Palestinian people have been struggling hard to regain their lost geopolitical identity against the ruthless Zionist regime, backed unabashedly by the US and its (western) allies.
The agitators burned Israeli nation flag to express their anger.
The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Foreign minister, the President of India to the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi demanding that India snap all ties with Israel and assert that United Nations should intervene.
