Mangalore, November 30: Amid speculations that Jet Airways will launch direct air services between Mangalore and Dubai, J T Radhakrishna, Director, Mangalore International Airport, has stated that he is not aware of any approval granted for the private airline to launch the service in Mangalore.
Following the grant of international status to Mangalore Airport, it was being said that Jet Airways, besides Air Arabia and Etihad airlines had approached the Airport authorities asking for initiation of air services.
In an interview with Coastaldigest.com prior to his retirement, Mr. Radhakrishna's predecessor M R Vasudeva had said that Jet Airways was interested in starting direct services from Mangalore to Dubai and other Gulf countries. It was also said that the airline is well on its way to get approval.
However, speaking to Coastaldigest.com on Friday, Mr. Radhakrishna said that initiation of the airline service is “still in the pipeline” as there are “many issues that remain to be solved” but it will be “a possibility soon”.
“I am not aware of the approval. If anything of that sort will happen I will be the one getting the information first”, Mr. Radhakrishna said.
Meanwhile, Jayaprakash Hegde, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP, has been in constant touch with Team Coastaldigest.com over the issue of starting direct flight between Mangalore and Saudi Arabia, gathering details of the attempts made in the past and chalking out plans for the future course of action in getting the service launched as fast as possible.
