Mangalore, December 11:  Fed up with the approach of M B Sadashiva, District President, Janatha Dal (Secular), five JD(S) leaders have announced their resignation from the party.

Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Tuesday, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, Vice President, State JD(S) Students wing, District Joint Secretary and district in-charge of Yuva Janatha Dal, said that he along with several others in the party had worked for JD(S) and stood by the party leadership even when its strength was deteriorating in the coastal region. However, ever since MB Sadashiva became District President, activists in the party were constantly being subjected to “mental harassment”, he said.

“He appointed a new unacquainted person as the District President of the JD(S) Students Wing and toppled me from the post without my notice. Although the unit had been carrying out various struggles, Mr. Sadashiva never extended his support. He does not want young people like me to come up”, Mr. Jeppu said.

He also accused Mr. Sadashiva of not actively participating in the activities of the party. “The Sullia constituency which is Mr. Sadashiva's constituency, does not possess village committees of the party. This shows how much of an impact he has in his own backyard”, he said.

Mr. Jeppu also questioned Mr. Sadashiva's rationale of prohibiting JD(S) activists to be a part of Mr. Jeppu's 'Tulunada Rakshana Vedike' while he himself is a member of the Lions Club.

Apart from Mr. Jeppu, J Ibrahim, District Vice President, JD(S), Jyotika Jain, District Chief Secretary, Siraj Deralakatte, President, DK JD(S) Students Wing and Salahuddin Ayyub, Organising Secretary, JD(S) Ullal, also announced their resignations from the party on the occasion. More JD(S) members are expected to follow suit, Mr. Jeppu said on the occasion.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao reminded that V D Savarkar was not against cow slaughter as he himself was non-veg eater, PTI reported on Thursday.

"As a Brahmin he was eating meat, and he was openly propagating eating meat," said the minister at an event in Bengaluru.

Reacting to Gundu Rao's claim, BJP MP Anurag Thakur called Congress a "factory of lies" as he warned that India won't tolerate any disrespect towards Savarkar.

"By disrespecting Veer Savarkar they have shown that they don't respect freedom fighters. During the Congress government, Sardar Bhagat Singh was termed a separatist in textbooks...By making those who want to break the nation join the congress party, Rahul Gandhi is taking forward the ideology of 'tukde tukde' and he is a 'modern Jinnah' who speaks ill of the country abroad...," he said.

Meanwhile, a court in Maharashtra's Nashik district summoned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi earlier this week in a defamation case filed against him for his alleged objectionable remarks against the Hindutva ideologue.

The complainant, who is the director of an NGO, claimed he watched a press conference addressed by Gandhi in Hingoli and also a speech made by the Congress leader in November 2022.

He alleged that Gandhi, on the two occasions, by his words and visual representations knowingly harmed the reputation of Veer Savarkar and also tried to defame the latter's image in the society.

According to the complainant, Gandhi said "Savarkar is BJP and RSS jin" which was defamatory in nature.
