Mangalore, December 15: If voted to power, the Janatha Dal (Secular) government will create a separate Minority Corporation for Christians headed by a Christian, said H D Kumarswamy, Former Chief Minister and JD(S) State President.

He was speaking at the DK district Christian convention organized by the party in Mangalore on Saturday.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that although a minority corporation under the state government is already in existence, it is majorly aimed at development of Muslims and is also headed by Muslim candidates most of the time. Hence, a separate commission aimed at developing Christian community and helping the poor in the Christian community would be constituted in the days to come, which would be headed by a Christian.

The party state president also said on the occasion that JD(S) will try to give as much representation to Christians as possible in the upcoming Assembly elections in terms of election ticket.

Stating that the Congress is not in favour of Christians in reality, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that communal disharmony in the state, especially in Dakshina Kannada district, is a contribution of both Congress and BJP. “Both these parties are two faces of the same coin. The Congress never made an honest attempt to oppose the failures of BJP as an opposition party. People say that JD(S) was responsible in bringing BJP to power. But the truth is that the situation then was such that we had no other choice but to join hands with BJP then as Congress had intentions of destroying our party. However, even during my tenure as the Chief Minister I made sure that I did not allow BJP's communal elements to prosper. I ordered the arrests of the troublemakers in Bababudangiri issue while I was Chief Minister”, he said.

'Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, beware!'

Mr. Kumaraswamy on the occasion warned Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, the local RSS chief, of dire consequences for his actions if his party comes to power.

“A journalist has been arrested and put behind bars because he exposed the wrongs of people who are engaging in wrongdoing in the name of Hindu culture and religion. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat thinks that he has control over the administration and the police. I warn you Mr. Bhat, I will not let you go away that easily. A time will come when you will have to repent for your actions”, he said.

JDS leaders Sushil Noronha, Amarnath Shetty, Zameer Ahmed Khan, Sadananda Shetty, MG Hegde, Nagaraj Shetty, Aboobakkar Natekal, were present besides others.

'KJP is an internal deal of BSY with Congress'

Later, speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that Karnataka Janatha Paksha (KJP), the new party floated by his successor BS Yeddyurappa, is nothing but an internal deal the former BJP man has struck with the Congress party to destroy the BJP.

“It is an aimless party. It has been floated with an intention to cover up the mistakes of Mr. Yeddyurappa and to destroy a national party (BJP) by striking an agreement with another national party (Congress). The KJP has no intention to develop the state. Mr. Yeddyurappa is now speaking about being a changed man and secular values. This enlightenment that he has obtained will not survive for long. When in power, he was the one who suppressed the minorities the most”, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

Udupi: A vigilant Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Aparna K T, demonstrated remarkable presence of mind when she rescued a student who slipped while trying to board a moving train at Udupi Railway Station on Friday morning.

The incident occurred as passenger train number 06602 arrived at the station around 7:30 AM. The student, traveling from Mangaluru to Gokarna, had briefly alighted to purchase snacks. However, as the train began moving, she hurried back towards the carriage with the snacks in hand. In her rush, she lost her footing, slipping dangerously between the platform and the moving train.

Woman constable Aparna K T was given a cash reward of Rs 5000.

Constable Aparna, who had been closely monitoring the passengers, immediately sprang into action. “I saw her running towards the train and alerted everyone by blowing my whistle. She slipped, and her legs were caught between the platform and the train. Without hesitation, I pulled her out with the help of others nearby,” she recalled.

Thanks to Aparna’s quick thinking and the swift response of the railway staff, the train was stopped in time. Railway personnel, including the guard and loco pilot, were immediately informed, and they acted promptly to halt the train using both flag signals and a walkie-talkie.

RPF Inspector Madhusoodhanan PV arrived at the scene shortly after to check on the passenger's condition. The shaken but uninjured student was given water and helped back onto the train to safely continue her journey.

In an added measure of care, the RPF post at Bhatkal was notified to follow up on the passenger’s well-being during her journey. The student, fortunately, reached her destination without further incident.

The heroic rescue was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media, earning widespread praise. In recognition of her bravery, Regional Railway Manager (RRM) Karwar awarded Constable Aparna a cash reward of ₹5,000, commending her quick action that averted a potentially tragic accident.
