Mangalore, December 15: An exhibition of line drawings by contemporary artist Dinesh Holla titled 'Streams' was inaugurated at Orchid Art Gallery here in Balmatta on Saturday.
Speaking after inaugurating the exhibition, noted writer and columnist Dr Narendra Rai Derla said that the success of a poet, artist or a writer lay in the silence within them. Their art emerges from the depth of their silences. The concentration that they have in capturing a bird through one's lens, or create works of art is profound and phenomenal. It has a certain quality of wonder. This silence becomes the basis of the art emanating from them; hence artists should take care not to become verbose, he said.
Talking about the creativity of Dinesh Holla, he said that the artist could imagine an entire sketch or drawing with a single stroke. An artist can speak volumes with his art. If one could interpret them and read the meaning hidden in them, he could become a better person. Observing their art from the distance, teaches us the importance of silence, he said.
Director of the gallery William Pais also commended the sketches of Holla, which reflected the vast culture of Karavali region, the rural people, and the traditional song and dance of the region like Yakshagana.
Mr Holla said that he drew inspiration from the picturesque and pristine beauty of the range of mountains in Western Ghats, which he came across through his hobby of trekking. This is the second time that his solo exhibition is being held in Mangalore. The exhibition, comprising of 40 line drawings of various subjects, will be held till December 31.
Smitha Shenoy welcomed the gathering and introduced the artist and guests.
