Mangalore, December 18: A non-resident Indian from Manjeshwar taluk has demanded a fair probe into the unnatural death of his wife.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet organised by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) here on Monday, Abdul Razzak, a resident of Pathoor village in Manjeshwar, who works abroad, said he suspected foul play in the death of his wife.
He said that the police had ignored his pleas and had registered a case declaring that his 35-year-old wife Sauda had been killed in an accident.
“Konaje police first said my wife fainted on the road. Later, they said she met with a road accident and had succumbed to her injuries,” he alleged.
At the time of the accident, he had been working in Malaysia. Yet, hospital records show that he was present when his wife was being admitted to the hospital.
Demanding a fresh probe into the case, he revealed the name of a person who owes Rs.6 lakh to his wife Sauda to police.
She was last seen riding pillion on his two-wheeler. The suspect, however, has gone into hiding, he added.
However, Konaje police said that the case had been registered as an accident case and the motorbike involved in the accident was also seized.
