Bhatkal, Dec 25: JD(S) leader and President of Bhatkal Town Municipal Council Inayatullah Shabandari has been chosen as the “Muslim candidate” for the upcoming assembly elections.
In an election held at Majlise Islah-wa-tanzeem hall recently to decide whom to represent Bhatkal Muslims in the elections, Mr Shabandari emerged victorious.
He is supposed to secure JD(S) ticket in Bhatkal assembly constituency.
There were four aspirants in the elections in which one of the candidates Parvez Kashimji withdrew his candidature. Three remaining contenders were called to introduce themselves and highlight their service to the society.
Mr Shabandari secured 30 votes and other two candidates namely Muhammed Muzammil Qazia and Sadullah Damda managed to secure 18 and one votes respectively.
Bhatkal Tanzeem Vice President S M Parvez chaired the meeting.
Shabandari is also the president of JD(S) Bhatkal unit.
