Speaking on the occasion, KKSV district unit president G Rajashekhar said that nearly 200 activists of the Bajrang Dal had illegally entered the premises of Stella Maris Church on December 26 and demanded removal of a banner installed outside the church.
“The banner contained nothing insulting to any religion or caste. The church authorities had communicated this to the protesters several time. Although the police and church authorities were ready to remove banner, the protesters wanted an apology from the parish priest before the removal of the banner. Instead of taking action against Bajrang Dal, the police put pressure on the priest to get the banner removed,” he said.
Following this incident the police filed a case against Alban D'Souza, parish priest of Stella Maris Church, at the Malpe police station here.
The Malpe police said that a case had been filed under Section 295 A of Indian Penal Code (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
The case had been filed on the basis of a complaint given by Harshavardhan and some residents of Malpe and Kalmady areas, the police said.
Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah confirmed that a case had been registered and the investigations were on.
