Mangalore, December 28: A married woman, who was admitted to a private hospital in Deralakatte after being injured in a bike accident, was later found to have been assaulted by the same person who had got her admitted.
The victim, Sauda (35), was a resident of Deralakatte, while her husband Abdul Razzak was employed in Malaysia. Three weeks ago on December 6, she was brought to K S Hegde Hospital in an unconscious state by a person named Rahman (32) who had signed the admission form as her husband.
Police sources said that the victim had fractured her skull and suffered minor injuries on her leg. It was told to the hospital staff that she had slipped and hurt herself while riding pillion with the same man. A case had been registered at Konaje police station.
Since the story narrated by the man and the injuries on the victim's body did not match well, the police conducted a thorough investigation and found that the woman had been assaulted by Rahman, a resident of Mangalanthi, near Manjanady.
The accused had assaulted her in the premises of Mangalore University and had later admitted her to the hospital with a fake signature after she became unconscious.
A mother of three, Sauda succumbed to her injuries and died on December 9. The accident case was converted into a murder case on Thursday, December 27 and Rahman was arrested in Deralakatte on the same day.
