Mangalore, Jan 5: The Kabaddi sensation of India Mamatha Poojary is all set to tie the knot with Udayavara based Software Engineer Abhishek Kotian on January 23 in Udupi.
Family sources said that the couple got engaged on October 9, 2012 in the presence of her parents — Bhooja Poojary and Kitty Poojary, and brother Vishwanath Poojary, sister Madhura Poojary and family members friends.
"It's a new chapter of my life and I am obviously excited,” said the Indian captain of the women's World Cup kabaddi winning team.
Presently, she is practicing at New Delhi, and would fly back just a week before her wedding, family sources said.
“It is up to her to decide whether to continue Kabaddi after wedding. But the sport needs both age and capacity,” said her brother Vishwanath Poojary who coached her initial years.
She led the Indian Kabaddi team that won gold medal in the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou in China. Ms Poojary who hails from Hermunde village in Marne Gram Panchayat near Karkala grew up in humble settings and has reached the top owing to her determination.
She had her early education at Hermunde Primary School, Jyoti High School in Ajekar and Government Junior College at Muniyal. She did her B.A. at Gokarnanatheshwar College in Mangalore.
Mr Kotian is settled in Bangalore along with his parents.
