Mangalore, Jan 6: The ongoing Paradise Cricket Fest-2013 at Krishnapur, on the outskirts of the city, is proving to be a big hit in the region and has successfully wooed both young and old spectators back to local cricket.
Since the tournament got under way on New Year's Day, thousands of cricket fans have flocked to cricket grounds around the coastal distracts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to watch the flood-lit matches played so far.
As many as 57 teams have taken part in the tournament.
On Saturday night cultural team led by Zeenath Kannur entertained the cricket fans through melodious songs.
The six-day tournament, which is expected to conclude tonight, is being organised under the auspices of Paradise Club, Krishnapur. Semifinals and final matches are expected to be held later in the day.
Both the teams of Paradise Cricket Club have entered semifinals. 'Paradise A' will face 'Eleven Start Karkal', while 'Paradise B' will face 'Masco Ulllal' in 8-over matches.
A prize-money of Rs 1 lakh will be given to the winning team and Rs 50,000 to the runners-up, during a formal prize distribution programme after the final match, according to Moideen Bava, the patron of the tournament.
A total of Rs 35 lakh has been spent on the entire event. Rice and sarees will be distributed to 2000 people and 500 women respectively, after the final match, he said.
