5 arrested for stabbing 2 women including a pregnant to death

Belagavi, Oct 2: Police have arrested five people, in connection with murder of two women, including a pregnant woman, recently in the City over family enmity and money.

Deputy Commissioner of police Praveen Amathe, addressing a press conference here on Friday, said that the accused committed a conspiracy and stabbed two women at Brahmanagar area in Mache village, in the outskirts of the City on September 26.

Two married women Rohini (23) and Rajashree (21) died on the spot and the accused escaped from the spot.

The arrested were identified as Kalpana M Basarimathad (35) native of Kalyanahatti village, Mahesh (20) native of Chandgad Taluka in Kolhapur district, Rahul M Patil (19) native of Belgundi village, Rohit N waddar (21) native of Durga Mata Colony and Shanur N Banner (18).

Rohini was five month pregnant and another one Rajashree is a close friend of Rohini. Both were going for an evening walk when they were stabbed from behind. It was alleged that Rahul and Rohith stabbed them, further investigation is in progress, the DC added.

The Karnataka government has announced that Nandini milk will become ₹4 costlier per litre starting April 1, 2025. This is the second price hike this year.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna and Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh said the increase is meant to support dairy farmers by covering the rising costs of producing and processing milk.

Officials also said that:

>> The extra money from the price hike will go directly to the milk producers.

>> The earlier ₹2 price hike (announced on June 26, 2024) will be withdrawn.

>> The new price hike of ₹4 will apply to both 500 ml and 1-litre packets.
