Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Director of Life Is Calling P B Mithra said that the event will have both competitive and non-competitive running categories. In addition to the 21 km half marathon and 10 km run, there will be 5 km run in the competitive category for college students (boys and girls) and 3 km run for high school students (boys and girls). There will be a celebration run/walk in the non-competitive category. Participation certificates will be given to all the participants in both competitive and non-competitive category, he said.
Participants from all over the country are being expected to partake in the Celebration Run – 2013, with about 15-20 international runners being expected from Ethiopia and Kenya. Close to 4000 runners are expected altogether to participate in the event, he said.
The cash prizes for the top three winners in the open category (15-45 years) for 21 km half marathon for men and women will be Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. Top three winners in senior category (46-60 years) and veteran category (above 60 years) will also receive cash prizes.
There are special cash prizes for runners from Dakshina Kannada participating in the open category in both the 21 km half marathon and 10 km run. The top three winners (men and women) will be awarded Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 2500 respectively.
All the finishers in the 21km half marathon and 10 km run will receive medals at the finishing line. The top ten finishers will receive cash prizes in 5 km and 3 km runs.
The registration fee for half marathon and 10 km run is Rs 700 and Rs 500 respectively, said Mr Mithra.
The banner and posters for the Celebration Run – 2013 were unveiled at the press conference. Registrar of NITTE University Dr Rajshekar M, Deputy General Manager of Corporation Bank John D'Souza and President of DKAA Manjunath Bhandary were present on the occasion. Athletes Anand Shetty and Vandana Shanbaug were present.
