Mangalore, Jan 29: Aloysian Fest – 2013, encompassing fests of diverse streams such as Art-beat, Imprints, Spin-out, Acme and Astitva, will be held from January 31 to February 2 in the premises of St Aloysius College, Mangalore.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Fr Swebert D'Silva said that the three-day national-level fest, which would exhibit the intellectual and cultural skills of students, hoped to attract colleges from various places outside Mangalore. The fest this year was looking to attract 25-30 colleges. A total of Rs 10 lakhs sponsored by Coastaldigest.com and other firms will fund the fest, he said.
Staff co-ordinator Dr Richard Gonsalves said, 'Acme', the commerce fest with 'Revolution' as its theme, hopes to renew the trends this year with unique events such as Mock Stock and Quiz that will surprise the participants and elevate their level of challenge. 'Spin-out', the management fest with 'Sin City' as its theme had events such as Chase, Loudmouth, Gambling Commission along with Best Manager. 'Art-beat' with 'Kaleidoscope' as its theme, had events such as Cine-scope, Toon Ads, Fin Min and Reel Deal for BA and BSW students. 'Imprints' for BSc and BCA students, was a 'Tribute to late Scientists' having events such as Tech Guru, Yodha, Model-making etc, along with an exhibition with over 60 science and technology models.
'Astitva' was a cultural fest for students of all streams held on Saturday, with events such as variety entertainment, JAM, painting and turn coat. In addition, there will be an inter-collegiate sports fest 'Aloysiad' for men and women, with throw-ball, basketball and football tournaments, he said.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at 9.30 a.m. on Friday. CEO of Karnataka Bank Ltd P Jayarama Bhat will be the chief guest and Senior Manager of Indian Overseas Bank will be the guest of honour.
The valedictory ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Deputy General Manager of Central Bank of India N Balakrishna will be the chief guest and chairman of Coastaldigest.com will be the guest of honour. Rector of St Aloysius institutions Fr Joseph Ignatius Rodrigues will preside.
Staff co-ordinator Sylvia Rego and president of Students' Council Sanath Kumar Achar were present.
