18th Dist Kannada Sahithya Sammelana on Feb 1, 2; Dr N Narayana Shetty to preside over meet

Mangalore, Jan 29: The 18th DK District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held on February 1 and 2 at Uppinangady. The event will be presided over by Yakshagana and classical vidwath scholar Dr. N Narayana Shetty Shimanthoor.

Addressing a news conference in Mangalore on Tuesday, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President, Kannada Sahitya Parishath, DK, said that Dr. Shimanthoor is one of the experts of 'Yakshagana Prasanga' drafting. His works such as 'Yakhsagana Chhandombudhi', 'Anarghya Chhando Ratnagalu' and 'Chithrathripadi' have enriched the Yakshagana literature immensely. Choosing him as the President of the district Kannada Sahitya Sammelana is an honour being bestowed on the art of Yakshagana and classical Vidhwath.

On February 1, a procession will be inaugurated by Nalinakshi C Shetty, President, Uppinangady Gram Panchayath. C T Ravi, District in-charge Minister, will hoist the national flag and the Sahitya Sammelana flag will be hoisted by Shashiprabha, President, Puttur Taluk Panchayath.

The inauguration of the Sammelana will be carried out by Dr. Kamala Hampana, Bangalore. 'Vidwath' felicitations will be carried out on the occasion.

Arrangements will also be made for anyone interested in setting up stalls for sale of rural handicrafts and rural equipment besides Kannada books, without taking any charges from them, Mr. Kalkura said.

Mangaluru: A sense of shock and anxiety has gripped the city as Mumtaz Ali, brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, has gone missing. His car was discovered abandoned near the Kuloor Bridge in Mangaluru early Sunday morning, sparking a frantic search operation.

The black BMW, found damaged at the scene, prompted immediate action from fire and emergency service personnel who rushed to the spot and began combing the river. The atmosphere was tense as Panambur police confirmed the vehicle belonged to Mumtaz Ali, heightening fears for his safety.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal and former MLA Mohiuddin Bava arrived at the scene, joining the growing crowd of concerned locals gathered along the riverbank. 

As search efforts continue, the community holds its breath, hoping for positive news in this difficult and emotional time.
