Addressing media persons at a news conference at the residence of a party worker in Jalligudda on the outskirts of Mangalore on Saturday, Mr.Kumaraswamy said that the BJP, KJP and BSR parties will hold no impact on the upcoming Assembly elections.
“The BJP has got dismantled completely in the state. The BJP is irrelevant this election. So is the case with KJP and BSR parties. I am taking on the Congress and not speaking much about BJP here is not because I have any soft corner for BJP”, Mr. Kumaraswamy said while stating that the Congress is making false promises to people as part of its election campaign.
“The Congress has already carried out two 'Padayatras, the first one with regard to Neeravari and the second one here in the coastal belt for communal harmony. If there is water distribution problem in the state today, it is because of the Congress, which did not take the right steps when its government was in power. It was the Congress which created an atmosphere of communal tension in the state. The Eidgah issue and Datta Peetha tensions began in their tenure. Today they are trying to do the same with the Tipu University issue too”, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
Slamming Siddharamaiah, his former partyman and the incumbent leader of opposition in the Assembly, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the senior Congress leader is making huge statements with the sole intention of occupying power.
“He (Mr. Siddharamaiah) has stated that if Congress is voted to power again, all the culprits in the BJP who looted the state's resources would be sent to jail. When he was in our party, he had said that if voted to power, action would be taken against Congress culprits. But he went on to shake hands with Congressmen instead. People must realize how trustworthy his assurances are. Can Siddharamaiah guarantee that he will not join BJP or KJP tomorrow?” Mr. Kumaraswamy asked.
The former chief minister brushed aside the charge that JD(S) helped BJP come to power. “It was the Congress which brought BJP to power. Even when we were in a coalition government with the BJP, we did not tolerate their wrongdoings and did not give opportunities for disharmony in the society”, he said.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he expects JD(S) to win at least three Assembly seats in the upcoming polls.
M B Sadashiva, President, JD(S) district unit, Sadananda Shetty, MLA candidate, B Nagaraj Shetty, and several other JD(S) leaders and activists were present.
