Mangalore, February 4: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Guest Lecturers' Association held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Monday, demanding pay of their pending salaries from the government.
The protestors shouted slogans against the Education Department of the government accusing it of harassing them and not shelling out their salaries since July 2012.
The salaries of guest lecturers holding masters degrees are currently Rs.8,000 while lecturers who have passed NET and possess PhD are being paid Rs.,10,000. The protestors demanded that their wages be increased to Rs.15,000.
Government colleges having KPSC permanent lecturing posts must appoint guest lecturers who are rendering their services, they demanded.
Although the government is spending crores of rupees on higher education, guest lecturers are being looked at as 'untouchables' and slaves, the protestors alleged and demanded justice from the government.
