Mangalore, Feb 5: The 'Tipu Sultan Nagar' was inaugurated at Kudroli, Mangalore, by Vittla Muhammad Kunhi, Working President, JD(S), DK on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kunhi said that in spite of the Congress Corporators reigning Kudroli for 10-15 years, nothing had been done to develop the area. The incumbent JD(S) corporator Abdul Azeez has multiple achievements with regard to Kudroli's development in his short tenure. He has with his newer plans and efforts, won love and respect not just from JD(S) party workers but people of Kudroli as well, Mr. Kunhi opined.

Stating that Mr. Azeez has been active in his capacity as a councilor, Mr. Kunhi said that he has been engaging in discussions and actively taking part in developmental activities of not just his ward but the whole city. JD(S) candidates are pro-society and hence there is a need to elect JD(S) representatives to the state Assembly too, he said.

“Sadananda Shetty is a candidate with a clean image. There is not a single black spot in his personality. Making sure that he wins is the responsibility of the Muslim society”, Mr. Kunhi said.

Abdul Azeez Kudroli, Corporator, said in his address that although Rs. 75 lakh fund is the maximum amount available for a corporator, he had carried out developmental works in Kudroli area worth about Rs. 2 crores.

“I am extremely grateful to K N Vijayprakash, the former Commissioner of MCC for the cooperation he extended. I will always remember and cherish the support he extended. I have fulfilled 90% of what I had planned. Interlocks now feature at almost all streets in Kudroli. There are a few internal drainage works pending though”, he said.

Rs. 6.5 lakh have been spent for the tap water facility in 'Tipu Sultan Nagar' besides Rs. 13 lakh for the road tarring of the same.

Mangaluru, Sept 24: A blanket of gloom descended over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi as heavy rains battered the coastal Karnataka districts on Tuesday. Substantial rainfall has been drenching the region since Monday, intensifying as the day progressed.

In Dakshina Kannada, torrential downpours began early Tuesday, followed by overcast skies and humid conditions.

The showers persisted intermittently through the afternoon, with areas like Beltangady experiencing moderate rainfall, while Puttur and Bellare bore the brunt of heavier storms.

Overnight showers were reported in Bantwal, and Mangaluru city, along with its surrounding rural areas, witnessed a steady increase in rainfall, peaking by the evening.

After a brief respite, the return of intense rainfall has brought a welcome drop in temperatures. In Udupi, Karkala, Udupi city, Kundapur, and Hebri taluks all faced substantial rains throughout the day, continuing from late Sunday night.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the coastal districts, predicting more heavy rainfall in the coming hours.

A yellow alert has been placed for Wednesday, signaling the likelihood of additional downpours. Fishermen have been cautioned to remain vigilant, as the possibility of strong winds looms over the coastal waters.
