Mangalore, Feb 10: A man died of elephant attack at Pulikukku of Kodimbala village in Kadaba limits near Uppinagady. The deceased identified as Kushalappa Gowda from pulikukku was not just attacked by a pachyderm at about 11 am on Friday, but it caught hold of Gowda and threw him into Kumaradhara river, which rendered Gowda dead.
Though, earlier it was assumed that he died of elephant attack, the cause of the death was clear on Saturday when the body of the victim was found in the river.
Wild elephant on rampage
The people of Kodimala village and nearby areas have been living under fear after a rogue elephant entered the area, unleashing terror since Friday. The elephant was first spotted at Urumbi area and was then seen in Kodimala.
Amidst this, a rumour that a resident named Nagesh was killed by an elephant by throwing him into the river, created tension in the area.
The rumours were proved false when Nagesh was found safe at home.
However, when news of Gowda's death spread, it did not turn out to be false. Firstly, the local residents who started a look out for Gowda spotted his belonging near river Kumaradhara and then his body was recovered from the river.
Puttur Deputy Conservator of Forest A S Abbas, who reached the village after being informed, promised to submit a report to the government seeking compensation for the victim's family.
BJP leader and APMC president Krishna Shetty informed that a letter would be written to the District-in-charge Minister regarding the same.
