My statement given in Jaipur last month has created a misunderstanding. It has been understood to mean that I was linking terrorism to particular religion and was accusing certain political organization of being involved in organizing terror camps.
I had no intention of linking terrorism with any religion. There is no basis for suggesting that terror could be linked with the organisations mentioned in my brief speech at Jaipur.
Since a controversy has been created on account of my statement, I am issuing this clarification and express regret to those who felt hurt by my statement.
I will continue to perform my duties to the best of my ability to ensure harmony is maintained in social fabric of India.
Shinde's Hindu terror remarks conspiracy to divide nation: BJP
BJP has today staged a strong protest over Shinde's "saffron terror" remarks and said the comments were part of a conspiracy to divide the nation for vote bank politics.
At Jaipur Conclave, Shinde had accused the BJP and RSS of conducting terror training camps and promoting "Hindu terrorism".
"On one hand we are trying to bring peace in this country. We are also taking steps against injustice to minorities as also against infiltration. But, in the midst of all this, we have got an investigation report that be it the RSS or BJP, their training camps are promoting Hindu terrorism. We are keeping a strict vigil on all this," Shinde had said at the AICC session.
He had said bombs were planted in Samjhauta express, Mecca Masjid and also a blast was carried out in Malegaon. In all these incidents, the involvement of right-wing extremist groups is suspected. "We will have to think about it seriously and will have to remain alert," he had said.
