Mangalore, Feb 21: N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, DK, officially took charge as the interim administrator of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday in view of the scheduled polls.

Speaking to media persons after completing the documentation formalities and taking charge as the interim administrator of the MCC, Mr. Prakash said that the Corporation will continue with its routine duties and work as far as addressing public needs are concerned.

However, the DC said that drinking water problem will be on top of his priority list, considering the fact that the city had faced acute water paucity, last dry season. Solid waste management processes will also be closely monitored, Mr. Prakash said.

The Deputy Commissioner now has all the decision-making powers of the Council and will continue to remain in-charge of the Corporation until the next elected Council takes charge. The last Deputy Commissioner to take interim charge of the MCC was M Maheshwara Rao. The City Corporation polls are scheduled for March 7.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
