SIO anti-drug campaign: Youth warned against distancing themselves from families

Mangalore, Feb 23: The Students Islamic Organisation of India, Karnataka zone, organised a talk on 'drug abuse and alcoholism' at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management, in the city on Friday as one of its initiatives of the nationwide campaign against tobacco, alcoholism and drugs.

Addressing a gathering of management and law students B S Sharafuddin, Kuwait, urged the youth not to distance themselves from their families.

Youth involved in drugs use have wrecked families and destroyed careers. Alcoholism, drugs, tobacco are serious distractions that leads youngsters nowhere, he said.

“Youth should never distance themselves from their families lest they should become more prone to these evils,” he said.

He pointed out that there has been a constant change in the family structure in the society and that the modern families are no longer backed by rich cultural, religious and traditional values.

He also encouraged the students to set smart goals for life which he ensured will help them remain focused on priorities.

Dr. Devaraj, Principal of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management said that substance abuse among the youth in particular has become one of the prime reasons for widespread crime and violence in the country.

'Ethics and values no longer govern the youth. They need to learn from ideal lives and make themselves exemplary for others to follow,” he added.

Mangaluru: A sense of shock and anxiety has gripped the city as Mumtaz Ali, brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, has gone missing. His car was discovered abandoned near the Kuloor Bridge in Mangaluru early Sunday morning, sparking a frantic search operation.

The black BMW, found damaged at the scene, prompted immediate action from fire and emergency service personnel who rushed to the spot and began combing the river. The atmosphere was tense as Panambur police confirmed the vehicle belonged to Mumtaz Ali, heightening fears for his safety.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal and former MLA Mohiuddin Bava arrived at the scene, joining the growing crowd of concerned locals gathered along the riverbank. 

As search efforts continue, the community holds its breath, hoping for positive news in this difficult and emotional time.
