Mangalore, Feb 24: In wake of the announcement of the Local Urban Body Elections, the Dakshina Kannada unit of Aam Aadmi Party has declared to come out openly in support of non-corrupt and credible Independent candidates who are contesting for the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) polls.
The party, which launched its district unit recently, had earlier clarified that it would not be contesting the immediate polls in the state. However, in the interest of the local civic bodies, AAP will play a constructive role in ensuring good candidates to get elected and work in the interest of the people at large.
A release from party Joint Convener S Nandagopal said that the party will go through the list of independents contesting the MCC polls and decide on a case to case basis on which candidate to support. Party volunteers are likely to come out in open to support such candidates during the door to door campaign as well.
Aam Aadmi Party, though not contesting the elections, will continue to play a pro-active role in ensuring good governance.
Time to time, the party will raise significant civic issues that affect the common man, may it be the basic infrastructure or cases of corrupt practices that leave people in a lurch, the release said adding that the party would very soon organize its district convention to democratically elect its office bearers so as to streamline the functioning of the party up to the grass root level, a press release stated.
