Mangalore, Feb 25: Residents of Padukonaje staged a stir in front of Deputy Commissioner's office, Mangalore on Monday, demanding the district administration to set up an authorized committee for the development of Konaje Kallu Siddhashrama, Moodabidri. The protest was organized by Konajekallu Siddhashrama Padukonake Grama Hithachintakaru, led by Sudatta Jain of Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangha.
Addressing the protesters, Mr. Jain said that although Konaje Kallu is a sought after tourist destination and the land being in custody of the government, some illegal committees have sprung up claiming to be the protectors of Konaje Kallu Siddhashrama. The government must take note of these developments and initiate action against such committees, he said and suggested that an authorized committee must be set up for the maintenance and development of the spot.
“There have been immoral activities going on there. Suicide cases have also been on the rise at the spot. There is a need for an authorized committee to be set up by the district administration to curb such menace and also to develop the place. Konaje Kallu is the property of Hindus and not Jains. It must be protected. The government claims to be following 'Hindutva' principles but it has no concern for places like Konaje Kallu,” he said.
