Mangalore, Feb 26: For the second time in Mangalore, the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences will organise the 17th National Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) Post Graduate Convention from February 28 to March 3, said Dean (Academics) of the Institute Dr U S Krishna Nayak.
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr Nayak who is also the chairman of organising committee of the convention said that the four-day national convention marked the silver jubilee of post graduate department, which was also the largest such department in the country with an intake of nine post graduate students each year.
Around 50 guest lectures will be delivered in the convention by renowned academicians and around 200 paper presentations by students. For the first time, a national level inter-collegiate quiz competition will be held, in which 240 dental colleges will participate. A total of 1500 postgraduate delegates, practicing orthodontics and teaching faculty have already registered for the conference, he said.
The inaugural function of the conference will be held on March 1 at 6 p.m. at Dr T M A Pai International Convention Centre. Chancellor of Nitte University N Vinaya Hegde will be chief guest on the occasion. Vice-chancellor of Nitte University Dr S Ramananda Shetty will be the guest of honour and president of Indian Orthodontic Society Dr V S Kohli will preside over the ceremony. The valedictory function will be held on March 3 at 5 p.m. at the same venue, said Dr Nayak.
Organising secretary of the convention Dr M N Kuttappa and chairman of the scientific committee Dr Ashutosh Shetty were present during the press conference.
