Madikeri, Feb 28: Tension prevailed at Somwarpet town in the coffee district Kodagu in Karnataka Wednesday evening when two petrol bombs were found in a bus bound for Madikeri.

The KSRTC bus from Harihar reached Somwarpet bus stop by 4.15 p.m. A student boarded the bus noticed smoke emitting from underneath of a seat. He alerted the bus conductor who found a box.

The box was pulled out and a burning wick usually used to blast stones in the quarry was found and soon the driver threw it out of the bus. The passengers and the conductor put out the fire out and opened the box. It contained two sealed beer bottles connected with wires.

Superintendent of police M N Anucheth rushed to the spot. The bus was stopped from continuing the journey to Madikeri. Finger print experts and the sniffer dogs are being summoned.

Mr Anucheth said that police will begin investigation into the incident. “They were Molotov cocktails, planted on an unoccupied seat. We are talking to the bus driver and conductor,” he said.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
