Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, president of SDPI Dakshina Kannada district committee Abdul Jaleel K said that the party had fielded its candidates in eight wards of Mangalore City Corporation, nine in Ullal, 13 in Bantwal and 10 in Puttur town municipalities, three in Sullia and six in Belthangady town panchayats.
Speaking of the party's agenda, he said that the prime intention of the party was to avail opportunities to every person willing to participate in the administration of the district. The corrupt ways of the district administration or its inability to provide people with basic requirements cannot be reformed merely by struggles. There are irregularities in the functioning of the MCC with regard to water supply and cleanliness in the city. The entire system should be rectified, and the mounting communal disharmony in the region should not be allowed to grow, he said.
He said that the nominations of four candidates contesting in Bunder, Kudroli, Vamanjoor and Krishnapura wards of MCC had been withdrawn by the party as a result of diplomatic appeals by several local members in respective wards.
President of SDPI Ullal constituency committee Nawaz Ullal and district committee member Aboobaker Kulai were present in the press conference.
