March 3, 2013

Ullal, Mar 3: The prime accused in 20-year old Haji Moideen Kutti murder case who had managed to escape the police from two decades was finally nabbed by Ullal police on Saturday.

Uday Kumar (42), along with his close aide Sukesh, both 22 years of age then, had stabbed Haji Moideen Kutti in June 1993 during the communal riots that had gripped Ullal. Both Sukesh and Uday were residents of Uchila.

It is said that the murder was communally-motivated. A seriously wounded Moideen Kutti was admitted to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries two months later, and the assault case turned into a murder case.

While Sukesh surrendered himself after the incident, Uday gave cops the slip, and had been absconding ever since. Innumerable attempts by the police to trace Uday were in vain. There was no trace trace of him, until a few days ago.

On receiving accurate information of Uday residing near railway gate in the town, police constables Mohammed and Taranath led by SI Ramesh arrested the accused near railway gate as per the order of Ullal Inspector Madan Gaonkar.

After his arrest, the accused was produced before court.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
