“Modi has done virtually nothing in Gujarat, apart from creating turmoil. No person in North India will accept him, as he is unfit to hold the post of the prime minister. Having orchestrated communal riots and sparked fear in the entire state, if Modi is made PM, the entire country will suffer,” he said, adding that Modi did not have the stature of former PM Atal Vajpayee.
With regard to the MCC polls Mr Poojary said that the party would emerge victorious.
“Being the last day of public campaigning, walkathons were held in and around the city. Support and concern from the public itself is the source of our strength. However, the BJP is now scared due to the fact that the Congress is becoming a clear favourite among voters. People have realised the BJP's failure both in the district and the state, and they also know that their ministers are corrupt. Hence, they are exerting pressure on the police force and election commission to hinder our campaigning,” he said.
He appealed to the people not to vote for candidates fielded by the JD(S), SDPI or any other political party apart from Congress as it would result in the division of votes.
“Voting for other parties will cause the total votes to be split, which will ultimately benefit the BJP,” he said, appealing for votes to ensure Congress's win.
K Tharanath Shetty, Harikrishna Bantwal, Arun Coelho and former Mayor Purandardas Kuloor were present in the press conference.
