Mangalore, Mar 17: The annual national- level film and documentary making competition 'Shooting Stars – 2013' was held at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore on Saturday. The event provides a platform for student film makers to screen their movies to a student gathering.
The event was inaugurated by renowned Radio Jockey Vishwas Kamath. The vice principal of Arts block, Judith Pinto, the coordinator of Mass Communication and Media Studies Vishal Nayak and the HOD of Journalism Bhavya Shetty were present.
Deliving the inaugural address Mr Kamath spoke about his experiences as a Radio jockey and stressed on the importance of radio in the present day scenario. He opened up the minds of the budding journalists to the field of Radio hosting. Apart from that, he conducted a workshop for the students and spoke about the various aspects of radio programmes and presented to the students the art of creative writing for radio jingles and advertisements.
Various short films and documentaries were screened after RJ Vishwas' workshop. These short films and documentaries were shot by students of various colleges from all over India. These movies were based on unique and original ideas of the students themselves. Themes like Dreams, Importance of Agriculture, Saving the Girl Child, Friendship, Love, Ill-Effects of Drug Abuse, the Indian Economy and many others were displayed through the near professional cinematography of the directors and expertise of the cameramen.
Valedictory
The valedictory program had of the eminent theatre artist and Radio Jockey Vismay Vinayak. Fr. Swebert D'Silva, the Principal of the host college, The convener of the event, Bhavya Shetty; the Co-convener Jayalakshmi Alva and Student Co-ordinator, Abdul Rahiman were present.
Awards
A total of 21 videos were screened in the event which included 12 short films and 9 documentariesoys by Hari Krishna, Pindicherry University bagged first place and Shades of Green' by Department of MCMS, St Xavier's College Goa bagged second place in Best Documentary category.
In the Best Theme (Special Award) category “Masanada Munnudi” by Parikshith, SDM College, Ujire bagged first place while “MRP?” by Satish R, Pondicherry bagged second place.
Best Short Film award was given away to “Kadhaikul Kadhai” by Hari Iyer, SRM College, Chennai and “Fate” by Mohammed Shaffir, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore for the first two places respectively.
