Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, film director and president of the society Vijaykumar Kodialbail said that the society had been actively screening art movies on the third Saturday of every month free of cost to the public with an aim to promote and popularise art movies among the audience. Released in 2011, Koormavatara has received positive reviews from film critics, and has won a National Award and two international ones. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada for the year 2012, and has the distinction of being the only Kannada film to be selected as an entry in five international film festivals. However, despite the appreciation it has received, the film has not been released due to several reasons, and will be released this Friday in Bangalore, he said.
If enough support is garnered, an attempt will be made to release the film in Cinepolis multiplex in the second week of April, he added.
Dr Shikaripura Krishnamurthy, who has played an important role in the film said that the film addressed the Gandhian principles needed in one's social life and the conflicts faced if one was to follow it in present times. It also addresses domestic issues and conflicts in one's home. It will be an educative experience for spectators, especially the youth, he said.
The show will be screened free of cost at 5.30 p.m. in the Dhyana Mandir at Sharada Vidyalaya on Saturday.
Secretary U Prakash Shenoy and joint secretary P Nithyananda Rao were present.
