As per the statistics available with the department, as many as 6,11,864 students wrote the II PU exam this year. Of this, 4,70,088 are regular students and 34,153 candidates registered for the exams in private. There were 1,07,623 repeaters.
There will be 36 valuation centres across the State: 17 in Bangalore, six in Mysore, five in Belgaum, four in Mangalore and two each in Shimoga and Davangere. The valuation will be held for 34 subjects for which the exams were conducted.
According to the commissioner, a select group of principals and lecturers has already been designated for the work. The valuation will be based on model answerscripts prepared by subject experts.
These model answers will be posted on the department website after the results are announced. The commissioner has instructed all the designated lecturers to appear for the valuation without fail and has warned of stringent action against those who absent themselves.
Hike sought
The Karnataka State PU Federation has demanded that the government double the remuneration given to lecturers and principals designated for valuation work.
The Federation consisting of PU lecturers, principals and non-teaching staff has asked the department to increase the travel allowance and the allowance given to them per answerscript for valuation. The lecturers have warned the government that they will go on protest if the department fails to double the remuneration before the valuation begins.
Sources in the Department of Pre-university Education told Deccan Herald that a proposal to hike the allowance has been made, but it is unlikely to be double the present remuneration. The department has asked for Rs 21 per answerscript, a hike from the present Rs 15. A hike of the daily allowance too has been suggested. The file is with the finance secretary. Nothing has been decided for certain yet, sources said.
