Dammam, Apr 3: The maiden direct flight from Mangalore to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia landed at Dammam International Airport at 6:50 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
Senior officials connected to Air India Express and airport accorded a warm welcome to the maiden passengers who alighted from while flight IX 385, which took off from Mangalore International Airport at 5:00p.m.(IST) with 160 passengers on board.
Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, Mangalore MLA U T Khader and Coastaldigest.com chairman Mohammad Asif were among the maiden passengers of the much awaited low-cost airline subsidiary of the airline. The trio were received by Rinchen Tshering, Country Manager, Saudi Arabia for Air India and other officials at VIP lounge.
“It was a pleasant journey. We reached the destination almost 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time,” said Mr Hegde and Mr Khader, who are supposed to participate in Coastaldigest.com Gala to be held on Thursday evening in Jubail.
As many as 59 passengers had boarded the flight from Mangalore. The flight had started its journey from Kozhikode with passengers from Kerala.
All the Mangalorean passengers expressed their happiness regarding the operation of the direct flight to Dammam saying that it saved them both time and money.
