Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 6: Even though all incumbent Congress MLAs from twin coastal districts of Karnataka have been assured of tickets from May 5 Assembly polls, BJP has denied tickets to two of its MLAs in Udupi district.
While Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat himself withdrew his candidature facilitating Sudhakar Shetty to get ticket after sex CD row, the name of Baindoor sitting MLA K Lakshminaraya has not appeared in the first list of candidates released by BJP on Friday. Instead, Sukumar Shetty who recently migrated from Congress has emerged as BJP's official candidate from Baindoor constituency.
Expressing shock over party leaders' decision, Mr Lakshminarayana said that denying ticket for a winning candidate is not good for the party. “Having served as the MLA for five years I was quite naturally the ticket aspirant for coming election. I had received assurance from several quarters that I would be given the ticket this time too. But I was shocked when Sangh Parivar leader T Shambhu Shetty and Coastal Development Authority Chairman Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde introduced my home on Tuesday and introduced a person as the probable BJP candidate from Baindoor,” he said.
However, four sitting MLAs of twin districts-Mangalore North MLA Krishna J Palemar, Mangalore South MLA N Yogish Bhat, Sullia MLA S Angara and Kaup MLA Lalji Mendon have been assured of tickets from their respective constituencies.
Former Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, who was defeated by K Jayaprakash Hegde in recently held Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency bypoll will once again contest from Karkala constituency. Chandrahas Ullal and Rajesh Naik will be contesting from Mangalore and Bantwal constituency respectively.
