Kushala had contested in 1985 and 1989 as a Congress candidate and won both the times. However, he lost in the Assembly elections in 1994 as well as 1999. After being denied a ticket by the Congress in 2004, he sought to contest as a JD(S) candidate, but lost the elections yet again.
After joining the KJP few months ago in 2012, he sought a ticket from the party from Sullia or Sakleshpur. With the party leadership deciding not to field him from either constituency, he submitted his resignation on Monday.
Asserting that he had submitted his resignation over the denial of a ticket, he told the media that he had only joined the party with the assurance of a ticket. “Instead of me, the party has named Chandravathi from Sullia, and Thimmaiah from Sakleshpur. Being a former MLA, the party could have fielded me at least from Puttur constituency. When I approached Dhananjay Kumar about my predicament, he did not respond in a positive manner. Hence, I made my decision to resign from the party,” he said.
Voicing his dilemma, he said that he was invited to join the BJP prior to his induction into the KJP. “Now, I can neither join the BJP nor stay in the KJP,” lamented the former MLA.
With the Assembly elections soon approaching, political parties such as the Congress, the BJP, the JD(S) and the KJP are on their toes, even as few party members have quit the party and decided to contest as independent candidates in the elections.
