In all began, when Kacharakanahalli corporator of the JD(S) Padmanabha Reddy arrived at the BJP?office to join the party. The three-time corporator decided to quit the JD(S) as he was denied a ticket to contest from the Sarvajnanagar Assembly constituency.
Reddy was to be inducted into the BJP?in the presence of national general secretary Ananth Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister R?Ashoka. However, scores of BJP?workers from Sarvajnanagar staged a protest in front of the office. Some of them allegedly barged into the reception and displaced chairs. They demanded that the BJP?should give ticket to a party loyalist and should not induct Reddy. The Malleswaram police who reached the spot forcibly evicted the protestors and locked the party office temporarily. Police said that they have not booked any case.
Despite the protests, Reddy was inducted into the BJP. Late in the afternoon, a small delegation of protestors visited Ashoka to express their grievance, who in turn assured them that the candidates' list has not been finalised and that their opinion will be taken into consideration.
They recalled that in 2008 the party had given ticket to an 'outsider,' former deputy mayor R Shankar.
He deserted the party after he was defeated in the elections.
Three BJP?corporators from the constituency - Kodanda Reddy,?Govindaraju and Srinivas- have opposed the entry of Reddy.
