Sullia, Apr 14: In a rather shameful incident, an Income Tax Assistant Commissioner who went away from a Bakery without paying for the purchase was made to come back and pay the due.
On Saturday, IT Assistant Commissioner Indumati Patil had come to a bakery in Sullia and after purchasing loads of eatables he had gone without clearing the bills.
Raged by the attitude of the Assistant Commissioner, the bakery owner knocked the doors of the police station. The cops called the officer back and made her pay the amount.
It is said that the officer was plying to Bangalore after completing her pilgrimage to Subramanya temple. On the way, she stopped at Gandhinagar and came to a bakery.
After purchasing commodities costing about Rs 300 she flashed her ID card at the bakery owner and went away. Following this bakery owner Ranjit decided to teach the officer a lesson. He called on the police who successfully stopped her vehicle at Kallugundi and made her come to Sullia. On confirming her position in the IT department, she was then made to pay Rs 300 to the bakery owner.
However, at this point the bakery owner refused to take the money and asked the officer to offer the same amount at any temple. The amount was offered at a temple. Since the owner of the bakery had not filed a written complaint no case has been registered.
