Mangalore, Apr 16: After a marvelous victory in the recently held ULB polls the confidence level of the Congress is evidently high. The Dakshina Kannada District Congress President and Bantwal Assembly Constituency canddiate B Ramanath Rai manifesting the same confidence has said that parties like the JD(S) and the SDPI pose absolutely no threat to the Congress and the party will sweep all eight Assembly constituencies this time.

Responding to a question on the SDPI's bright chances in Bantwal posed by a media person at a news conference in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Rai said that parties like the SDPI will have little bearing in the upcoming elections.

“The Congress is the most powerful party in Dakshina Kannada followed by the BJP. Other parties are of no significance here, not even the JD(S)”, he said.

Stating that people want to show the BJP the door this time, Mr. Rai said that people have a common enemy before them and hence will vote with wisely.

“People know whom to defeat. They are intelligent enough to know whom to vote and ensure that there is no division of votes. They have seen BJP's corruption and maladministration in the state besides realizing the communal politics that it plays. The recently concluded ULB polls are also an indication of things to come. We are confident that voters will swing the tide in the favour of the Congress”, Mr. Rai said.

Will talk to Shetty

When asked about the word doing rounds that partyman Vijay Kumar Shetty is contemplating to contest the elections from Mangalore North constituency as an independent candidate, Mr. Rai said that he is not aware of such a development.

“It has not come to my notice. It is true that there are multiple aspirants for tickets and there is bound to be some disappointment in some quarters. I have not been told of Mr. Shetty's move so far. In case there is any such development, I will speak to him”, Mr. Rai said.

The party is in full swing as far as preparations for elections are concerned, Mr. Rai said. Ivan D'Souza, KPCC Secretary, has been made the election in-charge of the party for Dakshina Kannada district. Senior leader Kodijal Ibrahim will act as the interim district President of the party. Attempts are being made to bring AICC President Sonia Gandhi for poll campaign in Mangalore and the process to finalise the dates is on, Mr. Rai further informed.

A few new inductions into the party were made on the occasion. The group of fresh inductees to don the Congress colours included KJP district level committee members Kiran Kumar Shetty and Bhaskar Poojary.

Congress leaders Ivan D'Souza, J R Lobo, K Ashraf, Kodijal Ibrahim were among those present.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
