Mangalore, Apr 26: Maintaining harmony in the society is as important as carrying out development and providing basic facilities to people. Congress is the only party which can fulfill all these requirements, Ramya, film actress and Congress' star campaigner said.
Addressing a news conference in Mangalore on Friday, Ms. Ramya said that she had visited coastal Karnataka for campaigning during the Udupi-Chikmagalur bypolls too recently. Congress candidate had emerged victorious then and there will be an encore this Assembly election. U T Khader has been known to her for long and is a dedicated social worker, Ms. Ramya said.
When asked as to why star campaigners keep switching parties, Ms. Ramya said that such decisions are taken by the individuals concerned and refused to comment further.
The actress denied the perspective that involvement of star campaigners in political campaigns has any major impact on the electoral verdict, and stated that they play a pivotal role in determining a party's electoral fortunes.
When asked about active participation in politics, Ms. Ramya said that at the moment she is happy campaigning for the Congress party. “Active participation in politics is something that can be decided in the future. I am competent enough to handle any responsibility and will accept any post the party gives me”, she said.
After the news conference, the actress walked around the Hampankatta area and sought votes for party candidates from people.
Kodijal Ibrahim, Interim District President of the party, Ivan D'Souza, Mamatha Gatty, Farooq Ullal, Sadashiva Ullal, B Ibrahim, Kanachur Monu were among the Congress leaders present.
