Mangalore, Apr 27: Minorities must stop looking at the BJP as a communal party and must instead give it a chance because it is only the BJP, which can bring in development and progress, said Micheal Lobo, MLA, Calangute, Goa.

He was addressing a news conference in Mangalore on Saturday along with fellow BJP members from Goa Glen D'Souza Ticolo, MLA, Aldano, Nilesh Cabral, MLA, Curchorem, Carlos Almeida, MLA, Vasco, Juinho D'Souza, State Executive Member, BJP, Goa and Dattaprasad Kholker, State Vice-President, BJP, Goa. The delegation was in the city to campaign for the party with a special focus on garnering minority votes.

Ever since BJP took over the rule in Goa, things have changed for the good, Mr. Lobo claimed. “The Congress had played with the minorities by creating a sense of fear among them, telling them to stay away from the BJP, calling it a communal party. They used this fear to their advantage. Now, after the minorities supported the BJP, things have changed and it is now that Goa is seeing progress like never before. More minorities must join the BJP”, Mr. Lobo said.

The delegation claimed that Catholic Christians of Mangalore in particular have a misconception that the BJP is a communal party and appealed to them to support the party in the upcoming elections.

When asked about the series of Church attacks that took place in Karnataka during the BJP's tenure, Mr. Lobo said that the perpetrators of violence had nothing to do with the BJP.

“There might be certain elements who carry out violence or communal activity. But they are not part of the BJP. In Goa, Sri Rama Sene wanted to set up its base but our government warned them from even entering Goa. Similarly, the Bajrang Dal is not a part of the BJP. People do not know what the BJP is. They must join this party to realize what it truly is”, Mr. Lobo said.

An election campaign vehicle of the party equipped with a large LED screen was flagged off on the occasion by the team of Goa MLAs. Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, was present.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah against Governor Thawarchand Gehlot's decision to sanction the complaint and investigation against him in the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam case.

Justice M Nagaprasanna said the facts narrated in the petition would undoubtedly require an investigation.

The court has also said that the Governor's order approving sanction to investigate against Siddaramaiah under section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act does not suffer from application of mind, instead has abundance of application of mind.

Meanwhile, the court rejected the request made by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi to stay the order of the court. The court has vacated the interim order passed on August 19. In the interim order the trial court was directed not to take any precipitative action against Siddaramaiah. On August 17, Governor had approved sanction under section 17 A  of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 218 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita ( BNSS), citing three applications.

The court said the private complainants were justified in registering the complaint and seeking approval from the governor.

Insofar as private complainants seeking sanction under section 17A, the court said the provision nowhere requires only a police officer to seek sanction from a competent authority. The court further said it is in fact the duty of the private complainants to seek such approval.

Earlier, The High Court had completed its hearing in the case on September 12, and reserved its orders. It had also directed a special court in Bengaluru to defer further proceedings and not to take any precipitative action against the Chief Minister.

The case pertains to allegations that compensatory sites were allotted to Siddaramaiah's wife B M Parvathi in an upmarket area in Mysuru that had higher property value as compared to the location of her land that had been "acquired" by MUDA.
