Mangalore, Apr 27: Pointing at series of failures of the UPA government, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and BJP leader Arun Jaitley has opined that the nation is having an utterly non-inspirational leadership at the Center.

Speaking at a news conference in the city on Saturday Mr Jaitley said that elections for Karnataka Assembly are being held at a time when politics in India had become contentious.

“Apart from the prominent issues we have today, there is Chinese intrusion inside the Indian territory and the government is unable to take the country into confidence, as to how it intends to deal with this issue. Pakistan has been repeatedly indulging in provocative acts, despite warnings. We have a disturbed neighbourhood all over. The Parliament is paralysed, because we have two continuous acts where monumental corruption took place under the UPA government,” he said terming it as a 'management of the decline'.

Immoral policing

The Joint Parliamentary Committee, investigating the spectrum scandal despite majority of the members being of different views, comes up with a draft where it covers up for the whole scam. So, the UPA first indulges in corruption and then indulges in a massive cover-up, he opined.

The coal-block allocation scandal is still continuing to stare at the face of the UPA government, where even the investigation is being interfered with and ministers get access to the CBI status report. All these issues will have a prime place in these elections, he said.

“It is quite fashionable for people to use the phrase 'moral policing', but interference in the investigation of CBI is a clear case of immoral policing by the UPA government,” he said referring to the agency's status report on coal allocation scam which was allegedly 'shared' with higher officials and bureaucrats in the UPA government.

Responding to a query, he said that the CBI was an autonomous body, and that if the UPA government continued to ignore the reality on the coal allocation scam, then it was their 'misfortune'.

Faced our challenges

With regard to the maiden opportunity of ruling Karnataka, he said, “five years ago, we got an opportunity to govern Karnataka. We have grown quite rapidly in the state, faced our challenges and also learnt from experience. We preferred to stand by our ideals when faced by conflicts, and despite these challenges, we continued to serve the people of Karnataka. With schemes leading to growth in agriculture, irrigation, buoyancy in economy, increase in budget and improvement in infrastructure, we have gained popularity and we do hope we will be given opportunity to govern the state again.”

Sitting MLA and BJP candidate for Mangalore South constituency N Yogish Bhat, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik and Goa state vice-president of BJP Dattaprasad Kholker were present.

Mangaluru, Oct 7: In a heartbreaking turn of events, the search for Mumtaz Ali, chairman of Misbah Group of Educational Institutions, ended with the discovery of his mortal remains in the Phalguni river near Kulur. The somber discovery came after an exhaustive search, leaving a community in shock and sorrow.

He is the younger brother of former MLA Mohuiddin Bawa and former MLC B M Farookh.

The incident has taken a deeply distressing turn with the filing of an FIR against six individuals, including a woman, who are accused of pushing Ali to a tragic end.

The accused allegedly blackmailed Ali, fabricating a story about his involvement in an illicit relationship with the woman. Reports suggest that they extorted Rs 50 lakh from Ali and were unrelenting, demanding an additional Rs 50 lakh from him, casting a shadow over his final days.

The complaint, lodged by Ali’s grieving brother, accuses these individuals of driving him to despair through relentless blackmail and false accusations, ultimately leading him to take the tragic step.

In the early hours of Sunday, Ali left his home at 3 am, heading towards Suratkal, perhaps seeking some solace. A minor accident occurred when his car collided with a private bus near MCF. Despite the mishap, he offered a heartfelt apology to the bus driver and conductor—a gesture that now echoes with the pain of his unspoken struggles. After the collision, Ali made a U-turn near Panambur circle, driving back towards Kulur bridge, where his journey came to a sorrowful end.

Ali’s last moments hold an even deeper sadness, as he left behind a voice message in Byari, naming an individual who had been tormenting him mentally. Sent to his daughter and a close friend, the message revealed the unbearable burden he was carrying, hinting at his final decision to end his suffering.

This tragic loss has left the community and his loved ones grappling with unanswered questions and a profound sense of grief. As the investigation unfolds, the memory of Mumtaz Ali lingers, a reminder of the silent battles that too often go unseen.
