Mangalore, May 5: An incident of tensions rising and a minor scuffle erupting between Congress and BJP activists near the Capitanio polling booth in Kankanady has been reported.

The validity of voting rights for a group of nursing students not originally from the city is said to be the cause that led to the scuffle.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, ACP Kavitha who is monitoring the situation said that the activists got into a heated verbal duel over the voting rights of a group of nursing students who are not originally from the city.

“The students have been sent back as of now and have been asked to come back with relevant documents. There is still time as voting can be carried out till 6 pm and if they come with the documents asked for in time, they will be allowed to vote. The decision to allow or disallow them to vote completely rests with the Presiding Officer. As far as police is concerned, we are making sure that law and order situation is in place and the voting process is going on smoothly”, Ms. Kavitha said.

In a significant development, a special court tasked with handling cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MP/MLAs) has ordered that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed regarding the Muda case.

Additionally, the Karnataka Lokayukta, which is an anti-corruption body, has been tasked with investigating allegations against Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly involved in the case.

The court instructed the Lokayukta (an anti-corruption authority) to provide a report within three months. It also ordered the relevant authorities to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the case.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the directive, compelling the Mysuru Lokayukta police to commence an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Snehamayi Krishna.

The Karnataka Lokayukta in Mysuru is required to carry out the investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which mandates the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
