Mangalore, May 9: By voting wholeheartedly for the Congress, Muslim voters of Dakshina Kannada district have proved that they will not fall prey to the tactics of PFI and SDPI, said K Ashraf, former mayor of Mangalore City Corporation.

Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore, Mr. Ashraf said that Muslim voters of the district are intelligent enough to weigh their options and vote for the right candidate.

“SDPI was a tool used by the BJP to hurt Congress in this election but Muslim voters showed that they will not let their votes get divided. Muslim community in our region is enlightened enough and do not support forces like the PFI and SDPI”, the Congress leader said.

Heaping praises on B Janardhana Poojary, Mr. Ashraf said that the senior party leader was instrumental in leading Congress to an impressive victory in the district besides giving him credit for getting provision of rice to the poor at Re.1 per kg included in the state election manifesto.

Mr. Ashraf said on the occasion that elected representatives of the party in the Mangalore City Corporation, members of block Congress as well as party workers at the grass root level are looking forward to work together and support the newly elected Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo in making Mangalore the second best city in the state.

Sharing his thoughts, party leader Kallige Taranath Shetty said that Congress will take up completion of Thumbe vented dam project, setting up of city bus stand and incomplete drainage works in the city on a priority basis.

Ivan D'Souza, KPCC Secretary, said that N Yogish Bhat, the four-time MLA from Mangalore City (South) who lost to Mr. Lobo, has no right to claim that the projects which would be completed by the Congress government in this term are his projects.

“He has said that projects initiated by him will be implemented soon. Whatever projects he is speaking of were conceptualized by preceding Congress governments and he had nothing new to offer”, Mr. D'Souza said.
