On Monday morning Mr Khader visited fishing hubs and central market areas, met the workers in both the areas and firstly thanked them for supporting him.
The crowd at both the spots welcomed their leader with great affection.
Central market is one of the most active areas in the city, which caters to various requirements of the people of the city. However, the waste disposal system does not exist here, due to which most of the decayed vegetables and other wastes are dumped on the roadsides, causing lot of inconvenience to the pedestrians and passersby. Seeing the plight of the market, Mr Khader expressed his contempt.
“Disposing the same is the responsibility of the Mangalore City Corporation. If waste disposal does not happen effectively, then it will lead to contagious diseases. When I am the health minister, I am sure this will create a grave problem for me,” said Mr Khader.
One of the oldest structures in the city, Central Market houses hundreds of vendors selling vegetables, fruits, flowers etc. Despite this market fetching huge revenue to the MCC, the market fails to get the same attention from the authorities.
Though there are plans to build new market building here, the inefficient and unscientific waste disposal technique adopted here has been a matter of concern.
Lobo's visit
Even newly elected Mangalore South MLA Mr J R Lobo plunging into action, visited Central market. Mr Lobo too could not contain his anger by the way the waste disposal is taking place in a market place like this.
He said that a meeting with the officials will be convened soon to brisk up the plans of constructing a full-fledged market complex.
Vendors happy
The visit of the Minister and the MLA has brought a sought of happiness to the vendors of the market.
“We have been living in dirt literally and so far no MLA or minister had paid a visit to assess our condition. Today, not only the MLA, even our Minister met us and spoke to us about our problems. They have said that a new market complex will be built so as to tackle all the existing problems,” said Shamshuddin, a vendor.
All in all the vendors of Central market are hoping to see better place to work, with new market complex in place.
