Speaking to office-bearers of HRCAU and mediapersons in the city on Monday, she said that the police did not inform her when her son was arrested and took him to custody due to suspicious behaviour.
“It is only when a relative saw Naveen's dead body at Wenlock Hospital that my family and I came to know about his death," said Kusuma narrating the responsibilities that were on Naveen's shoulders.
"He was the only bread winner of the family. Even my married daughter stays with us. We now stay in a rented place as the walls of my house have collapsed,” she said, appealing for justice in her son's death.
Resident of Ashraya colony in Kumpala, Naveen was caught by the police on May 20 near Thokkottu while he was asleep in front of a shop, and registered a case for suspicious behaviour. No information of his arrest was relayed to his family. Since then, he was in judicial custody and he was produced before the court on June 3. As there was nobody to release him on bail, his judicial custody was extended by the court.
Now, Kusuma has approached the human rights body for help and the body has sent a delegation to Home Minister K J George and IGP Pratap Reddy, asking for a thorough probe in the matter.
The human rights body has said that police had registered a case against Naveen without following any procedure and without having informed the family of his arrest. It has also imputed that he was not given treatment in the prison inspite of being severely ill.
General secretary of HRCAU Yuvaraj Jain said that the organisation would fight for the cause in order to provide justice for the victim's family. All kind of support will be provided to the family, he said.
