“The process of accepting public grievances is on at SP's office as well as police stations across the district almost every day, even otherwise. However since the meets will be held in each police station, mandatory presence of Sub Inspectors on the dedicated Sunday in their respective police stations will be ensured,” he said adding that no publicity had been made with regard to the public grievance meeting at his office today barring a notification on the DK police blog.
'Dvpt in naxal affected areas unsatisfactory'
On a query on the progress of development works in naxal affected areas following receipt of fund for the same through a police department initiative, Mr. Goyal said that the works are being carried out at slow pace.
“A sum of Rs. 5 crore was set aside for Belthangady Taluk of which works worth Rs. 3.98 crores were identified and taken up by the Engineering Department of the Zilla Panchayat, Nirmithi Kendra and PWD Departments. Only 50 per cent of those works have been completed but the progress is slow. The funds were released in June 2012 itself. Most of these works are concerning road repair, bridges, drainage repair works, distribution of solar lights etc. The police department as well as the Deputy Commissioner himself has expressed concerns over the slow progress,” the SP said.
A proposal to employ tribal youth as Home Guards in police service for a year has also been sent, Mr. Goyal said. The move is likely to create employment opportunity for local tribal youth, the experience of which can help them get security jobs in future, he opined.
Single window counseling
The district police is contemplating to host a single window counseling and helpline services, Mr. Goyal said.
“We as policemen can handle a case but not counsel people affectively. We come across rape victims, assault victims, people who lose their money due to frauds, senior citizens etc who many a time will be in need of counseling. We have this proposal of creating a single window counseling service. We are willing to host it in our office and coordinate with NGOs and counselors in dealing with such cases as and when required”, Mr. Goyal said.
