According to official sources, the district recorded 146.80 mm rain on Tuesday. A house at Kottakkandam in Bedadukka village was destroyed while 15 houses in the district were damaged. Officials estimate the loss to property at Rs.2.13 lakh.
Water from the Madhuahi river entered the Siddhi Vinayaka Madanandeshwaram temple at Madhur. A tree fell on the national highway at Bevinja on the Thekkil ghat section, disrupting traffic.
Crops were destroyed across the district, especially in the hilly hamlets around Kanhangad as the water level of a tributary of the Chandragiri river suddenly went up. Sea continued to be turbulent for the second day on Tuesday. There was sea erosion too in many places.
Landslide
Two persons were killed when a hillock caved in at Pallangod in Adoor at Badiadka. The deceased are Asma (38), wife of Muslim League leader M A Abdul Khader and his son Mubeen (12).
The 100-foot high hillock collapsed on the house, killing the two on the spot. Hearing a loud noise, other members in the house ran to safety and escaped. With the help of fire service personnel, the buried bodies were extricated from the earth.
