The victims have been identified as Mumtaz and her two daughters Fathima Nishana and Khatija Naifa. Fathima is a Class III student while Khatija is studying UKG.
They were residents of Hidayat Nagar, Kallapu, near Ullal.
It is learnt that Mumtaz's husband Mohammad Sadiq works in a gulf country.
Source said that the mother pushed her two children off the railway bridge to Netravati river and then jumped down.
As per the latest information, the body of the mother and one of the two daughters has been found.
The reason for the suicide has not been ascertained fully as yet. However, bystanders said that family problems and infighting drew the lady towards committing suicide.
All was not well between Mumtaz and her in-laws, it is said. She reportedly had a fight with her mother-in-law who was taking repeated objections to her visting her maternal home. Mumtaz had visited her mother's house in Kallapu on Saturday and returned back to her husband's place on Monday. She is even said to have had a fight with her husband over the phone. Today, she returned to Ullal and without paying a visit to her maternal home, jumped off the bridge into the river.
A suicide note has been recovered from the spot however, wherein Mumtaz has claimed that she herself is responsible for the extreme step.
